Job description (Main Duties and Responsibilities):
- Bookkeeping & Financial Records: Maintaining accurate financial records, managing sales and purchase ledgers, and performing daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations for various clients.
- Account Preparation: Assisting in the preparation of monthly management accounts, trial balances, and drafting annual financial statements ready for senior review.
- VAT & Tax Compliance: Preparing, calculating, and submitting VAT returns for different SMEs (monthly or quarterly) in accordance with HMRC regulations, and assisting senior staff with basic corporate and personal tax computations.
- Financial Administration & Payroll: Processing payroll, managing cash flow records, monitoring expenditure, and ensuring the accurate processing of accounts payable and receivable.
- Client & Audit Support: Resolving routine financial queries from clients, assisting senior accountants during internal and external audits, and ensuring compliance with standard accounting practices.
Person specification (Skill, Qualification, Experience):
Qualifications & Experience:
- Professional Qualification / Education and experience: ACCA Qualified, or currently studying towards / Part-Qualified in ACCA. The ideal candidate should have a solid working knowledge of UK bookkeeping practices and basic taxation laws. Proven work experience is not required as training will be provided, but previous experience in a finance or accounts support role will be highly advantageous.
Skills & Competencies:
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, general ledger management, and standard accounting principles.
- Analytical Skills: High-level proficiency in numeracy, basic financial modelling, and accurate data entry and reconciliation.
- IT Literacy: Proficiency in cloud-based financial software and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills - able to address clients and team members clearly in both informal and formal settings.
- Methodical Approach: Exceptional attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines and reporting cycles.
- Integrity & Discretion: Ability to handle confidential, sensitive financial information with absolute honesty.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to manage changing priorities and support different client accounts as needed.
